one day

The one-day lesson is a base price $400 which includes up to two people, and only $100 for each extra person (up to ten total).  We have several projects to choose from, though we can only teach one project per class session. We always recommend the railroad spike knife as a first project and as the best project for large groups.  The knives are challenging but achievable for just about everybody. They are fun to make, allow for som individual creativity, and they always turn out great. If a knife is not your speed you could also make a small hammer-back tomahawk (be ready to work HARD for this one and we do not teach this class in the summer months), bottle openers, bracelets, or a copper and steel ladle. Also, if you have a specific project in mind and it is not covered by one of the above options, just let us know here and we will see if we can make it happen for you! 

Two Day

The two-day lesson is a base price of $700 which includes up to two people, and only an additional $200 for each extra student (up to four total). In this lesson, you'll make a knife from 5160 spring steel and it will have a black micarta handle scales. You can choose to make one of several patterns we have available (no chef knives. If you want to make a chef knife please let us know and we can discuss). On the first day the student forging, rough grinding, and heat treating. The second day the student will be doing the final grinding, adding and shaping the handle material, and sharpening. Please note, the two day class is not designed for beginners. We have had beginners do the class successfully, but it can be hard on them. If you want a good fun time and a great introduction to the process,  the one day railroad spike knife project is a much better option.

Parent and Child

For minors 13+ we are currently offering a one day class for $400 for which is for both the child and a parent or legal guardian to take the class together.  If you wanted to have more people attend, such as a second parent or grandparent and a second child, it would only be $100 for each additional person up to ten. Please note, we do require at least one adult student for each minor student.

In the class we would be taking the student/s through forging a simple knife made from a railroad spike. This has always been one of our most popular projects, especially for beginners, and the knives turn out great.
