December 7 & 8 - Lost Wax Object: Introduction to Lost Wax Casting

December 7th & 8th - 5:00 - 9:00 PM

This class is designed for those of you who are interested in the lost wax process, but want to make an object of your own design. Whether you want to make a ring, pendant, figurine, knife fitting, etc this class will teach you the all of the basics of the lost wax casting process.

We will start with a wax blank which will then be carved, decorated,  invested, and cast using the vacuum assisted casting process. We will then go through fettling, patina, and finish. Each student will leave with an object of their own creation.

Please come prepared with multiple design ideas, we will help you choose the one which is most appropriate for the process. Your design should fit easily into a 2”x4” tube.

While it is unlikely to occur, please understand that lost wax casting has some potential risks for mold failure during casting which would leave you without a final product. If this were to happen, we will provide you with another piece of wax and arrange a time for you to cast and finish the new pendant.

Please be sure to show up at least 30 minutes before class time. This class is primarily benchwork, so please dress comfortably but also shop appropriately. No open toed shoes. Please eat a hearty meal before class and bring plenty of water and snacks.
