600.00

December 15th & 16th 10:30 AM - 8 PM (1 ½  hour break for lunch)

This is a light sexy 6" bladed knife with a differential clay hardened blade in 1095. Over the two full days starting with a bar of 1095 steel, you will forge your Tanto knife to shape grind and clay harden your blade. After final grinding you will hand sand and acid etch to bring out the hamon line of the differential heat treat. You will then sharpen your blade and with a well wrapped and protected blade, you will be ready for the handle. After laying down some leather as a packing to increase the handles thickness, you will wrap the handle using a combination of knotting techniques in 1/8" paracord.

This class is designed for those of you who want to expand their breadth of knowledge and skills of material and techniques used in the shop, it will require some good grinding skills and at leased a solid foundation in forging. Simple and clean is so much trickier than you think.

PREREQUISITES: This class is appropriate for those of you who feel comfortable at the grinder and have a good clean grasp of bladesmithing, so as a suggestion two blade or blacksmithing classes and 100's in knife grinding.

Please be sure to show up at least 30 minutes before class time. We recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, boots, and a hat.  You are encouraged to bring your own respirator if you have one. Please eat a hearty meal before class and bring plenty of water and snacks.

WE WILL HAVE A 1 ½  HOUR LUNCH BREAK EACH DAY. LUNCH NOT PROVIDED. PLEASE BRING A LUNCH FROM HOME OR PLAN TO EAT AT ONE OF THE MANY LOCAL RESTAURANTS NEAR THE SHOP.
