Danes Axe: Blacksmithing Intensive

August 17th & 18th 10:30AM - 9PM with a 1.5 hour lunch break each day

In this two day Intensive we will be forging and hafting this massive 3lb axe.

We will start with 3.25lbs of 4140, forge and grind the head then finally haft it on 43” of hardwood which we will be hand shaping on the grinder and then bringing it to a razor edge.

This axe was inspired by a description of a historic Danes axe.

This is a Big F***ing axe so we highly recommend having taken Blacksmithing 100s (or four Introduction to Blacksmithing/ Bladesmithing classes) and at least one Introduction to Knife Grinding Class before attempting this axe. Having taken another axe or a hammer class with us previously wouldn’t hurt either.

Please arrive for your class at least thirty minutes before the scheduled start time. Wear non flammable (high cotton content) long sleeved shirt and long pants and closed toe shoes. We will be doing some woodwork so bring a respirator if you have one.

Bring plenty of water, snacks and be sure to eat a hearty meal before class. We will have a 1 ½ hour lunch break each day. Lunch is not provided. Please bring a lunch from home or plan to eat at one of the many local restaurants near the shop.
