June 22 10:30am - 10pm
In this full day class we will be making our version of a traditional Japanese Tanto Knife. Starting from 12 inches of ¼”x 1 ½” O1 tool steel students will learn how to go from a master pattern to to a finished blade. Students will be using a 2” x 72” grinder to profile grind, and bevel their blades. We will then heat treat, apply wooden handle scales and use the grinder again to sculpt the handle, and sharpen the blades to a razor edge. This will be an intense 8-10 hour class with a 1 ½ hour lunch break.
We recommend taking at least two Introduction to Knife Grinding classes before trying this blade
Please arrive for your class at least thirty minutes before the scheduled start time. Wear non-flammable (high cotton content) long sleeved shirt and long pants and closed-toe, leather shoes. If you have a respirator, please bring it with you. Also bring plenty of water, and be sure to eat a hearty meal before class.
